FROM UNDER THE BRIDGE
From Under the Bridge to The Top of The World
Everyone has seen homeless people in our community asking for a handout.
We’ve all had the common thought “why don’t they just go get a job?”
The reality is: It’s more complex than that: mental illness, disability, drug addiction, all get them stuck in the poverty cycle.
They don’t know how to lift themselves out of it.
Your contribution transforms a handout to a hand up.
We lovingly refer to the homeless population as the 'beloved'. They have so much potential and their stories are fascinating and inspiring. Here's just one example of someone we've worked with in the past.
Meet Sam.
He lived on the street dealing drugs. Tattoos head to toe. He struggled to find meaning in his life and knew something was missing. He wanted more for his life, but didn’t know how to get out.
Then, Sam started a training program and received regular coaching.
He earned wages while being trained on the job. He learned leadership and warehousing skills and became sober.
He created and worked his development plan to set goals, and received coaching on job search skills. He participated in a placement program and was offered a job.
Sam is now married with children and lovingly provides for his family.
“The Lord works from the inside out. The world works from the outside in. The world would take people out of the slums. Christ would take the slums out of people, and then they would take themselves out of the slums.
The world would mold men by changing their environment. Christ changes men, who then change their environment. The world would shape human behavior, but Christ can change human nature.”
Ezra Taft Benson
